2dDR's commercial supply is thinner than either copper peptide covered elsewhere on this site. The foundational wound-healing research was published from 2019-2021, and the first hair-specific animal study appeared only in 2024, so most of the cosmetic industry hasn't caught up with the research yet. At the time of writing, we're not aware of another UK-formulated, standalone 2dDR serum available with an explicitly stated concentration and full label disclosure.

AmpleLab's 2% 2dDR Hair Serum is formulated in the UK as a single-active serum: 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose at a stated 2%, not diluted into a wider blend.

2dDR (2-Deoxy-D-Ribose) is a naturally occurring five-carbon sugar, identified through wound-healing research as a compound that upregulates VEGF and stimulates angiogenesis, new blood vessel growth, in healing tissue. Its relevance to hair follows from perifollicular blood supply mattering to follicle function, tested directly in a hair loss animal model for the first time in 2024.

It's worth being direct about the evidence stage: this is pre-clinical research, wound-healing models, in vitro angiogenesis studies, and one animal model of hair loss. No completed human clinical trials exist yet. Full mechanism and evidence detail is covered in our main 2dDR article.

2dDR is formulated at 2%, stated explicitly on the product page, as the sole active. Worth being precise here: the published animal research (Anjum et al., 2024) used a substantially lower experimental gel concentration, in the region of 0.1-0.2%, so 2% is not a direct match to the tested dose. It's a practical topical concentration set above the lab-tested range, the same kind of gap that's typical when moving from an experimental animal-model dose to a commercial formulation, not evidence of a specific clinical effect at 2% itself.

The INCI name is 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose, listed specifically rather than under a vaguer descriptor like "deoxyribose" or a proprietary blend name that would prevent confirming the compound matches the one in the published research.

The carrier is a glycol-free aqueous solution: Aqua, Glycerin, 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin, the full INCI list, in order. No propylene glycol or butylene glycol, both effective solvents that also carry penetration-enhancing properties that interact unpredictably with microneedling. 2dDR is water-soluble and needs no specialised solvent to formulate.
